About the Practice
Design creativity meets ecological responsibility
Our Philosophy
John Adam Architects is a practice with an emphasis on design creativity, ecological- and lifestyle-based solutions. The practice specialises in residential architecture, unique homes, additions and alterations.
We are a new breed of architects whose work is not restricted by style, sculpting architecture that is specific to client, site, and budget. Integrating external and interior environments, we create homes that breathe, are non-toxic and require minimal artificial heating and cooling.
Based in the Adelaide Hills, our work spans across South Australia from metropolitan Adelaide through to the Fleurieu Peninsula and beyond. Every project begins with a deep understanding of the land, the climate, and the people who will call it home.
What Drives Us
Design Principles
Passive Design
Every home is designed to work with the natural environment — harnessing sunlight, cross-ventilation, and thermal mass to minimise the need for artificial heating and cooling.
Ecological Integrity
We use non-toxic, breathable materials and construction methods that are kind to both the occupants and the environment. Sustainability is not an add-on — it is fundamental.
Client-Specific
No two projects are alike. We design for the specific intersection of client aspirations, site conditions, and budget realities — without being constrained by a single architectural style.
